I worked longhorns on one ranch. Cranky old things. I only ever roped them in self defense. Get one headed to a snubbing post, run a loop around the neck, and a half hitch around the hindquarters, and a ten year old kid lean back on the rope and can put any cow on the ground. Kind of an unhandy way to milk a cow, but it's a lot safer than some alternatives. I always tell people I would be in much better shape if I had stayed away from horses, cattle and logging.
